'He was in fear of his life’: bullying can be a major factor in deciding to homeschool
Jessica Lewis/Unsplash, CC BY-NCAn increasing number of Australian families are educating their children at home, either through homeschooling or distance education. My research highlights how some parents are not necessarily choosing to homeschool for religious reasons or because they want to hothouse their kids. Nor are they doing it as their first choice. Rather some are doing it because their children are being bullied and going to school is no longer a safe option. How many Australians homeschool? As of 2021, there were about 26,000 young people in home education in Australia – this includes both homeschooling and those who...
Silence the Critics
Critics From the Cheap Seats What do you say to the critics? You know them… those loud voices telling you that what you SHOULD or SHOULDN’T be doing in your parenting and homeschooling (and frequently other areas of your life). These well-meaning voices...
Spread Kindness with Karma Yoga

Each child decorates a smooth stone with bright paint and an inspiring message (like a smiley face, words like “Joy”, “You are loved”, “Peace”, or...

If the student is a more advanced reader, the goals should be focused on increasing the student’s vocabulary and understanding of word meanings. Second, what is the student’s level of interest in reading? If the student is not very interested in reading, the goals should be focused on making reading more enjoyable and engaging. If...
