IEEE STEM Activity Kits Are In Demand at 150 U.S. Public Libraries

More than 150 public libraries throughout the central United States now lend out activity kits that let children explore just about any aspect of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The kids can check them out just like they would a book. The kits teach youngsters what engineers do, as well as how to code, build robots, design video games, and create animations. The collections have been made possible by the IEEE Region 4 Science Kits for Public Libraries program with funding from Region 4 members and corporate sponsors. Thankful Thursday | for a bad forecast!

This week, I’m thankful: for a bad forecast on our Hershey Park trip day We almost canceled the trip because the forecast was wet and cold. But I am so glad we didn’t, for multiple reasons: The rain was really only an intermittent mist. The cooler temperatures were a blessing; I’d take that over 95 degrees any day. The skies did eventually clear up The poor forecast meant we didn’t face crowd problems. We rode something like 12 coasters, and for many of them, we had only a 5-15 minute wait. Homeschool Curriculum Choices 2022-2023

As my kids each tiptoe towards the teen years, their personal learning schedules begin to fill and our time learning together dwindles. I have to keep reminding myself that this is as it should be. Deep, layered work requires that each individual be given time to pursue their own passions. When they were younger, we were exploring and sampling lots of topics. Now in their teens, my oldest three kids need lots of space and time to chase a few specific things they are most interested in. And the younger two aren't too far behind.
