MONDAY

Last night I went through the storage pantry in preparation for the grocery shopping today and found a few things that needed to be used up. So, this morning, Melia (17) made cake cornbread for breakfast, and the children added marshmallow fluff to their hot chocolate. Not a particularly healthy breakfast, but we did get the food used up!

For Morning Time, we did our Quiet Time study from Not Consumed. [READ MY REVIEW!]

From Stories of the Resurrection, we read about Pontius Pilate. Then, from Music in Our Homeschool, we listened to State Songs for Alabama, Maine, and Missouri. We also read about the Missouri Compromise and finished with our read-aloud – Farmer Boy.

I helped the little girls with their Phonics. Mercy is reading her first book! Then, the girls did their handwriting and math.

The boys did all of their individual work and then did Night Zookeeper – an online creative writing program. [READ MY REVIEW!]

That afternoon, I went grocery shopping at Aldi and spent $250 on groceries for the week. I found myself buying the last on the shelf of several items.

It was gently raining when I got home, and the little kids wanted to go out in it, so after we unloaded the groceries, they went out and played on the porches for a long time. I used to love to do that as a child!

We had leftovers for dinner, using the BBQ rabbit from this weekend for BBQ Nachos, along with leftover Oven Stew, Amish Pea Salad, and Shepherd’s Pie.

That night, the boys made popcorn for their Daddy and we watched Jungle Cruise.

TUESDAY

Ty and I had coffee and chatted this morning before he headed to the college to teach military science classes. We have several children/young adults in budding relationships and needed to discuss.

For Morning Time, we did Bible study, and then we read about Andrew Jackson in A New Nation and made a president’s card using the bookmarks from Notebooking Pages.

We listened to music by Chopin from Music in Our Homeschool, and read in Farmer Boy.

Mercy is doing well with her reading and has quite a memory! Aspen finished her Phonics book on Daniel and the lion’s den. They are both getting close to finishing their handwriting and math for the year, so I went downstairs to my homeschool storage and made a list of what I have and what I need.

After that, I checked in with everyone on their math and science to be sure they are all on track. Then, I gave my boys their next piano pieces to practice.

I took my lunch in my bedroom and took the time to plan a few upcoming events, then I worked on a YouTube video on how I made BBQ sauce from sandhill plum jelly.

That evening, Ty and I finished the grocery shopping. He bought some crab dip while we were out, so when we came home all of the bacon and cabbage had been eaten by the kids, we just ate the crab dip and some air fried carrots.

We finished Jungle Cruise and then Micah had his Special Night with doughnuts and root beer.

WEDNESDAY

It was rather chilly this morning with a chance of flurries. I put my radishes and lettuce on the porch this weekend, so hopefully they are doing ok.

For Morning Time, we did our Bible study, listened to Chopin, and then read about the Alamo and worked on a map of Texas. Then, we read a chapter in Farmer Boy.

That afternoon, I spent a long time on the phone with my oldest son talking about wedding preparations and such. I also worked through some emails – a never ending job!

Local sales flyers are about the only thing that comes to our mailbox on Wednesday, so I looked through all of them, and realized Aldi stills wins the day when it comes to food prices. So thankful we have an Aldi here!

That night, Ty and I went to a local gastro-pub for dinner. I had a salad and he had a burger. It’s a favorite place of ours, and a really great atmosphere with Edison lights and wood and iron. When the weather is nice, their back patio is a great place for a meal, but tonight we were thankful for the heater near our booth.

THURSDAY

I got up early to see Ty off for his Field Training Exercise (FTX), and then I got myself ready to leave for a day trip. I have a doctor’s appointment, a visit with an old friend, and dinner with Blake (24). All in all, it was a long, but really nice trip!

FRIDAY

Today, is our weekly house cleaning. Once I got everyone started, I went out to grocery shop. I am trying to get my weekly grocery shop on a Friday rotation. I think that will be easier and less disruptive than a Saturday or a Monday.

When I got home, I baked some bread, made some granola, and took the big kids to work at the bee farm.

I also made some strawberry jam and canned it – which took much longer than I anticipated, but was well worth it!

That afternoon, I signed up for a new health and fitness program from another homeschool mom called Anchored to Health. I didn’t have a lot of time to dig into it today, but I like what I see so far!

For dinner, we had the leftover BBQ rabbit in a casserole with mashed potatoes on top and some corn bread.

The big kids went to a missionary event at our church, and the little kids made a tent in the living room to sleep under – something they like to do several times a month.
