Keenan’s 2021 Track Season

Keenan had the opportunity to compete on the Wichita Defenders (an awesome homeschool sports league) Track team this spring.   After saying no to so many things for our kids over the past year, it was awesome to be able to let him compete in a sport again and he LOVED it!

It was a pretty short season - March 9th to May 3rd, but they had three practices a week and he got to compete in three meets.

Newton Meet, April 9th
Here is Keenan's 100 meter hurdles (I have muted the sound in all of the videos because I cheer SO loudly!)  :)
His time was 13.67

His second event was the 1600 meter (1 mile) run

Here he is finishing the 1600
His time was 6:02

He prefers to start out in this position, so he can see everyone ahead of him

Finishing the 800 with a huge lead!
His time was 2:40

He placed 1st in the 1600 and 800 8th grade boys, and 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles

* The day after this, Keenan broke his wrist and couldn't run or compete for three weeks*

Mulvane Meet, April 29th -first meet back, three days after he got his hard cast and could start running again.  No more hurdles, since we couldn't risk him falling.  :/

Keenan did two brand new events at this meet - the 100 and 400 meter.

He got a medal for placing in the top 6

Keenan had a great first track season, he throughly enjoyed it and hopes to do it again next year.   We loved watching him compete and are so proud of his effort and progress!
