Homeschool Earth Science Curriculum

If ya’ll have been around here for a while, you know my least favorite subject to teach is science. For the most part, I outsource science to our homeschool co-ops. My kids have studied most of the Apologia elementary science curriculums. So, I was elated to learn that Apologia came out with a homeschool earth science curriculum.

Apologia Earth Science

We are long-time fans of Apologia. We have used many curriculums in the exploring creation series as well as General Science and even their writing curriculums. Now, Apologia has released another curriculum in their young explorers series, Exploring Creation with Earth Science.

One of my favorite things about Apologia’s curriculum is that it is Christian, and in particular, this Earth Science curriculum is taught from a creation-based view. For example, I love this sentence from the introduction:

This year we are going to make time to be mesmerized and captivated with a wonder that goes beyond scientific descritpion. It is my prayer that as we explore creation together you also fall more deeper in love with our Creator.

That right there is what I want in a science curriculum! After traveling to 19 National Parks this year and EVERYTHING being presented from a non-Christian view, we are excited to read and learn about God’s creation! At a quick glance through the text, it was exciting to see several of the places we visited mentioned: Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, Mammoth Cave, and Old Faithful (Yellowstone), to name a few. I look forward to digging in and learning God’s story for his amazing creation!

Another great feature of the Exploring Creation with Earth Science curriculum is the accompanying notebooking journal. My kids have always enjoyed using these. There are multiple activities for each lesson in the journals, which include:

  • coloring pages
  • crossword puzzles
  • word searches
  • cut and paste activities
  • vocabulary
  • journalling pages to recap what they remember

I quickly noticed that the notebooking journals did not have the Bible verse copy work that I was accustomed to. However, within the textbook for each lesson is a Bible verse. Additionally, in the notebooking journal is a two-day-a-week suggested schedule. Check out the table of contents below for Exploring Creation with Earth Science.

If you are looking for a solid elementary science curriculum to teach in your home or at your homeschool co-op, look no further! Apologia has done it again with Exploring Creation with Earth Science! The text is well written, and the photos are vibrant and catching. The lessons and activities are well-thought-out and well laid-out. Also, if your student is more of an auditory learner, I did hear that they will be releasing their MP3 audio for this curriculum too!
