5 Design Tips for Creating the Perfect Homeschool Room

Designing the perfect classroom to teach your children is about so much more than just tables and chairs. The physical design of their learning environment will have such an impact on their ability to learn and achieved the desired outcomes you have set out for them. A well-designed classroom, filled with natural light, will motivate your children to learn and will help them to stay focused. After scouring the internet for the best tips and tricks for creating the perfect classroom at home, we have settled on these top 5 design tips for you to use.

1. Carefully Consider the Layout

You need to carefully consider the layout that you want your classroom to have. Make sure you’ve chosen a room with big windows for loads of beautiful natural light and fresh air. Decide where you want to place the workstations, bookshelves, teachers bulletin board, and storage cupboards and then plan your design around these items. Draw up a plan for the design of your room so you know where everything should go.

2. Be Creative

Creativity encourages children to explore their environment which fosters mental growth by allowing them to try new things and to find new ways to solve old problems. Make sure your classroom design is filled with bright colors, numbers, shapes and animals or plants. These different colors, shapes, and sizes will help their minds to grow as they learn. Being in a creative space is so important for the development of their imaginations and encourages self-expression which helps them to build confidence. Letting them be creative and build things helps them learn and grow!

3. Add Structure

By providing your children with a structured environment in which to learn, you will be helping them to learn healthy coping skills. Children learn best when they feel secure and comfortable and by giving them a scheduled routine to stick to, you will enable them to cope more effectively with stressful situations in the future. If the bulk of their day is consistently structured, then they will be better able to cope with the few parts of their day that might not be completely scheduled.

4. Get Their Input

Get input from your children, they would love to be part of this design process. Let them choose from some pre-selected options and let them run with them. It doesn’t matter if this ends up with mixed colors and patterns, the only thing that matters is that your children are happy and comfortable in their learning environment.

If you have younger kids and need to keep them contained within the learning area, make sure stairs are secured with safety gates like this gorgeous bamboo angle mount safeway from KidCo pictures above.

5. Add A Library

A great way to add an element of routine to each day is to have a reading hour at the end of each day. Fill a corner of the room with bookshelves and books and then throw around a few comfy throw pillows and a Nugget Couch for the kids to sit on whilst you read to them from their favorite books. My kids love this huge Dinosaur Plush from Target.

Have weekly competitions in class to choose a winner who will then get to choose the book that you read to them that Friday afternoon.
