It's getting late. Late in the month, and late at night! But I just need a minute more to finish sharing Something Loved, Something Gleaned, Something Saved and Something Achieved during the month of September, and maybe - just maybe! - I'll have time to visit the other Share Four Somethings bloggers in the next day or two!
Something Loved
Among the many happy times over the past month, one of my favorite things was a little weekend getaway we were able to do. It was an almost last minute decision for my husband and me to take a couple of days to visit Solomons, Maryland. We'd often talked about going to Calvert Cliffs State Park but so far hadn't done it, so on the Labor Day weekend we finally made it happen. And since getting to the beach area of Calvert Cliffs involves a bit of hiking, it was also a test of how well my knee rehab was going! I'm happy to report that I was able to make that hike (we're quite sure it's longer than the 1.8 miles one way that the signs indicate!) and I met the challenge! We had perfect weather the day of our hike too. We were also able to enjoy some relaxation at the hotel, a look at an historic lighthouse, and some excellent food at a couple of different restaurants.
Something Gleaned
There's always something to be gleaned from reading Scripture. This passage from the prophet Haggai was in my morning reading a couple weeks ago and I considered a more modern perspective on it:
Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."
This is what the Lord Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the Lord. "You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the Lord Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house."
~Haggai 1:5-9~
I think we've all experienced that from time to time - the sense that we are busted our rear ends and yet we don't seem to have much to show for it. We're not getting ahead. Or maybe we just aren't getting any satisfaction from the fruits of our labor. What if? What if it's because we've got priorities wrong? What if we're being self-centered and putting our own agenda above God's and he is trying to get our attention?
Do we expect God to bless us and provide for us when we don't bother with HIS Kingdom work, or when we prioritize our comfort over his commands?
God wants to give us blessings more abundant than we can imagine, but when we try to get the blessings we think we want on our own terms, it doesn't go all that well.
Something Saved
I added a few good graphics to my collection this month, including this one because I wanted to remember this fancier way to refer to leftovers:

Something Achieved
Speaking of co-op classes, I feel like it's an achievement to have the first couple weeks of class go smoothly, and to have my lesson plans for the Literature class laid out for the year. I've done my best to adjust the plan I had to allow for the surprisingly large class I have, but I will be making many more adjustments as we go, I'm sure.
We also made really good progress on our basement redo! The new floor is installed, and we've put the office/guest room together as much as we can. I have an area rug that will go in there, and am hoping that the cats will not think they may use it for their own purposes, if you know what I mean. This weekend we ordered a sleeper sofa that will go in the room.
